As of this morning, two new Jack White-produced tunes by the First Lady of Rock, Wanda Jackson, are now available via iTunes.

Download them. Now. Jackson does versions of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good," and the Johnny Kidd & the Pirates tune "Shakin' All Over."

The 72-year-old sounds youthful, sultry ... and deadly cunning. It's oh-so-sexy.

Jackson's career spans rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, country and gospel. She's shared stages with some of the biggest names in modern music history, from Elvis Presley to Elvis Costello.

“Even after all these decades, I’m finding that I’m still doing things that I’ve never done before,” said Jackson in a recent interview with the Tulsa World. “But when Jack White asks me to do something, I’ll bend over backwards to do it.”

And boy, has she.

The songs also will be part of a two-sided, 7-inch vinyl release. They were released today via iTunes.

“Jack’s just super terrific,” said Jackson. She said White’s not at all intimated by working with someone who’s been in the business for over half a century.

“I didn’t think I’d like the Amy Winehouse song at all,” admitted Jackson of the 2006, jazzy R&B- and hip-hop influenced tune. “But once I started singing, it all changed. It is a powerful, sweet song."

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
