I'll probably be there. And, I'll post less about the
Flaming Lips when they quit doing so much in their home state! ;-)
Until then ... For lovers of the psychedelic rock superstars, Tulsa has scored a coup of mind-blowing proportions.
Ten years ago this month, almost to the day, the band released its groundbreaking, four-disk "Zaireeka," an aural amalgamation meant to be played simultaneously (or in any combination), preferably on four synchronized sound systems.
Saturday (Nov. 3) at 4 p.m., Bart Ford at Under the Mooch record store, 1425 S. Harvard Ave., will offer a free, exclusive-to-Tulsa presentation of the project to celebrate the anniversary.
"This isn't an official re-release of the album," he said. "It's something the Lips are doing, releasing to specific fans and locations."
The presentation will include a DVD that will include Lips frontman Wayne Coyne, counting down the tracks of the album, among other things, he said.
And, those who order the original "Zaireeka" disk at the show will receive a free bonus disk from Ford, he said.

PLUS! Watch our slideshow from the Ghouls Gone Wild Parade in Oklahoma City, Oct. 27, 2007. Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips was Grand Marshal, and lead the "March of 1,000 Skeletons" through the streets of downtown OKC. I was part of it, as were my friends Sara and Amy (and, well, hundreds of other FLips fans!). It was a event to behold ... all those burning torches!
