Rains improve drought conditions, but we're still on the edge

In 2011, Oklahoma has its hottest summer on record.

Then, Tulsa had its third-warmest winter on record.

If spring was over today, Oklahoma would have its hottest spring on record, said Gary McManus, associate state climatologist with the Oklahoma Climatological Survey.

Here's how the hottest springs stack up:

2012 (as of May 23): 64.4 degrees2006: 62.9 degrees
1963 and 1974: 62.5 degrees
1986: 62.1 degrees
1925: 62 degrees
1967: 61.9 degrees
1991: 61.8 degrees
2004: 61.7 degrees
1985: 61.5 degrees

Remember, that meteorologically, the calendar's four seasons are three months each, so it goes as follows:

Spring: March-May
Summer: June-August
Fall: September-November
Winter: December-February

Is it going to happen? Will Oklahoma have its hottest spring ever? Probably. After all, Tulsa's forecasts are sunny the rest of the week with our next chances of precipitation falling next week. Check out the forecast here.

Unlike yesterday's tornado tally, this is not a good weather milestone/record to reach. Spring is supposed to be the time when tons of rain means we can make it through the hot, dry summer.

Stay tuned!
