People magazine reports 16-year-old Olympic Gold Medalist
Gabby Douglas will write a memoir set for publication this December.
Grace, Gold and Glory, My Leap of Faith will chronicle Douglas’s early life,
People reports. It will talk about how she left her family in Virginia when she was 12 years old to travel 3,000 miles away in pursuit of her dream to ultimately compete in the Olympics. She’ll talk about her path to winning gold at this summer's Games, and about how much she and her family have overcome during their journey.
Gabby said she's always wanted to write a book. This one will be an “inspirational memoir.”
She said she hopes people will read her story and "think anything is possible," Gabby said.
Having a book about the inspiring gymnast in a school library, for instance, will be wonderful for so many children.
Still, more broadly speaking, what do you think about this trend of young people penning – intentionally penning – their own memoirs? Is there an "appropriate" age to start in writing one's autobiography?
