Long before the Real Housewives of New Jersey, there lived a plucky bounty hunter named Stephanie Plum in a popular book series.

And fans of author Janet Evanovich have been debating furiously since her first book in the series, One For The Money, was published in 1994: Who should play Stephanie in the movie?

A pre-Oscar Sandra Bullock seemed to be the consensus (among my people, anyway), but time soldiered on and Bullock became a major A-lister, and let's face it, no longer right for the Jersey lingerie-saleswoman-turned-bounty-hunter.

Then, rumors swirled that Reese Witherspoon was "attached" to the project.

Finally, it was announced that Grey's Anatomy star and reigning romcom queen, Katherine Heigl, would play Stephanie along with some very funny women playing key roles, including the inspired casting of Debbie Reynolds as Steph's kooky, gun-toting grandma.

And Sherri Shepherd is Stephanie's sidekick, the prostitute with some serious wardrobe flare, Lula.

The first trailer was just released, and it looks pretty darn promising. The Stephanie Plum series was never meant to be rocket science, but pure literary fun. Let's hope the movie keeps it that way.

Will you go see One For The Money in January? What's your first impression of Heigl as Stephanie?
