The Italian sausage sandwich from Krebs Korner, 9 minutes before it was completely devoured. I did everything but suck the grease off the red-and-white checkered paper. Thought about it, though.

One of the best sandwiches I've EVER eaten and a cat named Brisket

I'll tell y'all the reasons why I was there next week, but I couldn't wait to dish about my lunch in Krebs on Thursday.

For years, I'd heard about Krebs, "Oklahoma's Little Italy," but I never got around to visiting. Finally, my chance came thanks to work, and I dragged Lord V along with me.

Before leaving town, we popped into Krebs Korner, just a block or two from the famous Lovera's Italian grocery. The owner, Sam Lovera, suggested we have a sandwich before heading out, so we each ordered the Italian sausage with peppers, onions and a little bit of mayo, per the store manager's suggestion.

While we waited outside on the patio, Lord V made friends with a cute little Maine coon-looking cat who hangs around outside the store. He went inside and bought some cat food, whereupon one of the super-friendly clerks, Cameron, told us the cat was basically the store's "mascot," and her name is Brisket. Thankfully, I hadn't ordered the awesome-sounding brisket a few minutes before, as that may have lessened the enjoyment of my impending food orgy.

Anyway, Nate fed Brisket, and then we fed ourselves. Seriously, y'all, this was one of THE best sandwiches I've ever had in my life. For a split second, I thought about licking the paper lining the basket -- but I refrained. This trip, anyway.

Next time, I'll have to try the famous Muffalata, which Sam told me is reminiscent of the ones at Central Grocery in New Orleans. Mmmm ...

Peace, love and things that don't taste like Brisket ... XOXO

You write some really good articles; even the ones that would ordinarily be kind of boring.

Thanks, Ed! Have an awesome weekend!

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
