Oops. Fox did it again.
The network announced Thursday it planned to change its Oct. 23 primetime lineup to accommodate the full two-hour episode of "The X Factor" partially pre-empted Wednesday because of a baseball rain delay.
But Fox has changed its mind.
Instead of pre-empting its entire new Tuesday comedy block as previously announced, Fox will extend its primetime schedule to 9:30 p.m. and run all but one of the comedies, according to a Fox release.
The move avoids a face-off between a new episode of NBC's "The Voice" and an encore of last Wednesday's first hour of "The X Factor."
Here's what happened: Fox tried to air "X Factor" Wednesday as scheduled despite a baseball rain delay overlapping into primetime. After bring notified that game 3 wouldn't resume until after the end of Fox's primetime at 9 p.m., the network began airing "X Factor" at about 7:40 p.m. But, within an hour, Fox was told the game would resume momentarily so it pre-empted "X Factor" to take viewers back to baseball. Then the game didn't actually start until after part of a rebroadcast of "The Mindy Project" had already aired, reported the website.
So next week's Tuesday will look like this: 7-8:30 p.m. "Raising Hope," "Ben and Kate" and "New Girl"; 8:30-9:30 p.m., a "special all-new episode of "X Factor" featuring the conclusion of the "Judges' Homes" round of competition, according to Fox.
The new comedy "The Mindy Project," featuring a guest appearance by Tulsa's Bill Hader, will still be bumped to Oct. 30.
"New Girl" and "Mindy Project" were already pre-empted this week by the presidential debate and all four half-hour comedies will be bumped again Nov. 6 for election coverage.
Fox airs on channel 23, cable 5 in Tulsa.
