All Tulsa-are Panera Bread locations will donate 25 cents from each cookie sold Friday to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma's Food for Kids backpack program.

The program provides a weekly backpack full of food to elementary school-aged children at risk of going hungry over the weekend when federal free or reduced-price meals are unavailable.

The program provides food for more than 3,700 children in eight school districts across Tulsa County.

That is a sad commentary on parents now days, that the government or an organization has to provide food for kids during the summer since they aren't able to get their free or reduced lunches from school.

Parents need to step up to the plate and be parents which means providing food, clothing, shelter, education and health care for their children without expecting the government or charities to do it for them. And, yes, I realize that there are a lot of people out of work and time are tough (thanks to Obama), but still I see some of those same parents walking around with hair weaves, professionally manicured nails, iPhones or smart phones, tattoos, etc. If they can afford those frivolous things, they can afford to take care of their children.
