One of the stories Perry "Bud" Isom told me that I couldn't work into Wednesday's Scene feature on Isom and his 71-year-old Perry's Food Stores concerned moving the old Cardinal Food Store sign.
In 1986, Perry's was moving from the Whittier Square area to 11th Street and Lewis Avenue, and Isom said he wanted to keep the old exterior sign but didn't have the means to move it.
"I had some old Coca-Cola memorabilia in the store, a thermometer and a clock, and one day Bill Stokely (Stokely Outdoor Advertising) comes in and says he will refurbish and move the old Cardinal sign if I would give him the Coke items.
"Yes sir, that's how we got that signed moved, and I'm still glad we made the trade."
