Pigs, popcorn and energy drinks

Whoa, Nellie! Two blogs in one day. Can you tell my Lunch Bunch group tested energy drinks this afternoon? I’m rolling like a California blackout.

Hence my need to tell you about “The Pig of Happiness” ($9.95, Andrews McMeel) by Edward Monkton.

Short story shorter, it’s a tale about this cool little pig who goes around spreading happiness, but not at all in a health-department kind of way. It’s a lightning-quick read with illustrations on each page – very simple, very brilliant.

If you’re interested in this cute little book, holler at Steve’s Sundry, 2612 S. Harvard Ave., at 743-3544. They don’t have it in stock at the moment, but I was told they can order it rather easily, like three days or something magically fast like that.

Anyway, here’s something groovy about popcorn from my fellow movie-clubber G: An Iowa Women's Health Study finds that women who eat at least 11 servings of whole grains a week receive the most protection against inflammatory diseases. What qualifies? POPCORN!! (Also, wild rice, brown rice, bulgar wheat, oats and oatmeal, barley, buckwheat, kasha, cracked wheat, quinoa, and various whole grain cereals.) So bring on the butter pump, Southroads 20 …

Note to self: No Red Bull after 3 p.m. – especially when mixed with Nos, Starbucks Double Espresso and Full Throttle.

Peace, love and happy, caffeinated pigs … xoxo

Living Wright

While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
