Plums and Plucots

This is the time of year for the very best fruit. I love the locally grown stuff, but the grocery stores have some great fruit from California, Texas and Florida that you don't want to miss.

This week, I've had apricots, peaches, plums and plucots.

If you've never tasted a plucot (sometimes called pluots or plumcots), give it a try. It's a cross between a plum and an apricot, with the texture of a plum and the sweetness of an apricot. Plucots are really juicy and are good eaten out of hand or sliced in a fruit salad.

In honor of plums...

This Is Just To Say
by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

Natalie.

William Carlos Williams -- I think this was one of the first poems I encountered as an extremely young person that showed how poetry can be found in the everyday world. WCW was a marvel at this.

I wonder if anyone has turned a recipe into a work of poetry.....

When the opportunity to become the food writer at the Tulsa World presented itself in the summer of 2011, Nicole jumped at it. She is excited to explore a new side of Tulsa and make the transition from crime to cuisine. .
