Nikky Finney, who was one of the featured writers at this year's Nimrod Conference for Readers and Writers, won the National Book Award for her volume of poetry, "Head Off and Split."
Finney learned of her nomination the week before the Nimrod conference. You can read the Tulsa World's review of "Head Off and Split"

John Lithgow, who hosted last nights National Book Awards ceremony, called Finney's acceptance speech "the best he had ever heard." You can see a video of her speech
