Poses, lucky numbers and trail mix -- Week 4, Day 1

I can't do this.
Used to be, I'd start my Mondays off in a panic. Alarm goes off at 6:30 or 7 a.m., I'd slap the "dream bar" (stupid name -- like it's a Vegas night club or something) for an hour while I contemplated deadlines, my weight and what I was going to wear that day. No breakfast. I'd arrive at work, ticked off at life and, mostly, myself.
Now, I'm getting up at 5:45 a.m., and I'm out the door by 6:20 to catch yoga at 6:30. Love it! OK, maybe I'm not IN LOVE with it yet, but I really do dig it, to borrow my mamaw's phrase. She also says "groovy, man" on occasion.
Anyway, some of the positions are a bit vexing, especially anything that necessitates the use of my ab muscles. The "plank" pose, for instance, is the devil. At least I think that's what it's called. I'm not doing too shabby with "warrior 1," though. My favorite: Lying on the floor before and after the class. It's called "rest."
The class sets my tone for the day -- always feel better. My mood? Enlightened. I've even had a couple of co-workers say I seem happier, even on a Monday. No one has EVER said that to me. No one sighted or sane, anyway.
Know what else makes me happy? Losing weight. Went to the basement of the World as I do every Monday and weighed on the allegedly accurate scale -- 206. So I've lost three more pounds since last week for a total of 13. It's this week's lucky number.
The weekend was nice, by the way -- didn't pig out too terribly. Let me break it down for ya:
Saturday: After 45 minutes on the elliptical and 15 on the treadmill, I came home and had three scrambled egg whites with fat-free cheese and spinach, plus an orange. For lunch, I went to Compadre's in Broken Arrow -- and DID NOT eat any chips or sip a margarita! I ordered a salad with grilled shrimp, chicken, zucchini and squash, with shredded parmesan on the side (used two pinches of it -- about 1/4 cup) and salsa for dressing. I did splurge and have four onion rings at Red Robin later that afternoon with Youngun and his friends from Hawaii; but I had a nice salad later that evening. OK, and 1 cup of trail mix -- the M&M kind. So we'll just call Saturday my splurge day.
Sunday: Had some oatmeal with blueberries, cooked lunch for the next few days, then went for a long walk with PB. Came back, had a steamable bag of green beans, then a banana and orange cut in a bowl with cinnamon. For dinner, I went to Banshee's parents house and had chicken (not fried, thanks), carrots and a small baked potato with salsa instead of butter. I totally refrained from dessert, so yay me.
I made my lunch today, and I'll share the recipe tomorrow. Shadey tried it and didn't gag or anything, so that's a good sign.
Peace, love and groovy yoga poses ... xoxo
P.S.: GEAUX SAINTS!!!!!!!

Hooray for lucky number 13. Great job. I agree with you that the plank pose is evil. Hate it.
The scales in the basement are right on. Trust me. I know this.
Keep up the good work.

Living Wright
While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
