Original Tribute to the Blues Brothers

The Tulsa PAC and Choregus Productions is holding a special pre-sale for tickets to the March 17 show of the Original Tribute to the Blues Brothers.

The show is presented as part of Choregus Productions' season, and is timed to coincide with the 35th anniversary of the Tulsa PAC's opening.

Tickets are $15-$30. A limited number of Golden Circle tickets are available for $75, which includes admission to the show and to an post-performance party with the cast on the Chapman Music Hall stage.

The Original Tribute to the Blues Brothers has been touring Europe and the United Kingdom to sold-out crowds for several years. The show coming to Tulsa features members of the cast from the London West End production.

Along with singers portraying Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues (characters originated by John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd on "Saturday Night Live" that went on to spawn a hit album and film), the show features a trio of female vocalists called the Bluettes, who help perform all the songs associated with the act, from "Hey, Bartender" and "Shake Your Tail Feathers" to "Think" and "Soul Man."

One of Blues Brothers fans’ favorites is “Rubber Biscuit,” with its hyper-speed scat singing about crazy cuisine like ricochet biscuits and wish sandwiches. First recorded by the Chips, the song became a favorite of East Coast disc jockeys in 1956. Written by lead Charles “Kenrod” Johnson while housed at a reform school, “Rubber Biscuit” became a 1978 hit when it was covered by the Brothers. Rockaeology has the meaning of the song’s cool-water sandwich and Sunday-go-to-meeting bun at bit.ly/pcyMdZ

When I think of a grand celebration of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center's 35th Anniversary, I don't think of any of the local companies like the Tulsa Opera or Tulsa Ballet or Tulsa Symphony or even the American Theater Company.

I think of a bus and truck touring company of a casino show.

Way to go TPAC Management.
