Prime PGA dining

Tulsa restaurateurs went all-out last week to accommodate diners during the PGA Championship.

Perhaps none did it better than Mahogany Prime Steakhouse. In addition to handling a full house inside the restaurant all week, it also served an enormous tent that filled the back parking lot.

The tent had air-conditioning, chandeliers, carpet, white tablecloths and an all-you-can-eat buffet that featured shrimp, lobster, crab and steak. No reservations were required, and valet parking made for easy access.

The cost: $100 per person, actually a bargain when you think about the quality and amount of food and the number of people around town last week ready to spend some bucks on an upscale dinner.

Sean, Chef Brad, Page, Jill and Lee were among the many Mahogany staffers we observed pulling off the tent operation without a hitch.

"It looks as though we will break even on the tent, maybe a little better than that," proprietor Sean Dhaenens said at the halfway point. "Because the restaurant was booked with out-of-town customers all week, we came up with the tent idea to handle the overflow and allow our regular customers to still be able to come here and have a nice dinner."

That's an example of thinking ahead.
