I think I may have fallen in love with Madonna because of Dick Clark.

The gentleman who looked like he never aged -- Mr. New Year's, Mr. Bandstand himself -- passed away today at the age of 82.

I grew up watching "American Bandstand" and remembered Michael Jackson performing and a host of other favorite artists of mine -- including Madonna, who performed in January 1984, when I was in third grade. I'm fairly certain this was the first time I'd ever seen or heard of the Material Girl. I probably didn't realize she was lip-syncing then, but whatever.

So raise your champagne flutes and honk your New Year's party horns, here's to Dick Clark -- rest in peace, Sir.

After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
