Michael Jackson - New Music - More Music Videos

Michael Jackson's 1982 blockbuster album "Thriller" is the first record I remember owning as a child. (Other than "Urban Chipmunk.") I think nearly every track off of it was a hit. "PYT," "Billy Jean," "Beat It," "The Girl is Mine,""Human Nature," "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" ...

And the title track. And the breakthrough video/movie short. Man, it used to scare me to death! ... And those overdubs from Vincent Price? The werewolves? The zombies? Too, too cool.

And at a summer dance camp in grade school, I met a dancer from "Thriller." She taught me the moves from the video. ... No, I can't do them now, so please don't ask. I think she went on to become a "fly girl" on "In Living Color." Me ... uh, not so much. Years later, I earned the sarcastic nickname "grace," if that tells you anything. :)

So many of my childhood memories are tied to his music. And this album in particular.

Michael Jackson, you are missed.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it.
