RSU TV to feature 'Queen of Rockabilly' Wanda Jackson

Oklahoma native and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson will be a guest on RSU Public Television’s “Green Country Perspectives with Sam Jones” at 9 p.m. Friday.

Jackson — “The Queen of Rockabilly” and a singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist — was one of the first popular female rockabilly singers and a pioneer rock ’n’ roller.

Jackson will discuss her life, music and the personalities she worked with during her career, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and more.

“Green Country Perspectives with Sam Jones” is a weekly series designed to promote public affairs, cultural understanding and the arts, hosted by veteran Tulsa news anchor Sam Jones.

Rogers State University Public Television broadcasts on digital channel 35.1 and 35.2, Tulsa and Claremore cable channel 19, cable channel 4 in Bartlesville and satellite channel 35 across northeastern Oklahoma.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.
