Rain and cold for OSU football; OU and Tulsa visit Texas' weather

The same September weekend that had the Oklahoma State/Tulsa night game weather delay also had the Baylor/SFA weather delay (and eventually they called the game off) in Waco, Texas. OU plays at Waco this weekend. TONY GUTIERREZ/AP Photo

A night trip to Ames, Iowa. A night trip to Waco, Texas. An afternoon in El Paso, Texas.

These are the weekend weather destinations for our state college football teams. Considering the weather Oklahoma's had recently, can't blame the three teams for wanting an away, out-of-state trip.

Oklahoma State at Iowa State, 7 p.m. Friday in Ames, Iowa

One of the fun things about looking up National Weather Service reports across the country for this football forecast is seeing exactly where each of these college towns are. For the record, Ames is just north of Des Moines on a road that might have a familiar name: Interstate 35.

If you plan to make this trip, I advise to check the stadium policy on bringing in hot chocolate, blankets or even umbrellas. Here are three things could make this game miserable for fans and players -- rain, cold and wind.

The weather service forecasts 8 to 11 mph south winds Friday night, with a 20-percent chance of rain. There is also a forecast low in the upper 30s. Brrrr.

Don't expect an reprieve by Saturday morning, either: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, accompanied by more wind and an afternoon high of 55 degrees will have you dreaming of Oklahoma's triple-digit summers. Maybe.

If you arrive early for the game, you will have mostly sunny skies Friday afternoon, but expect wind gusts up to 25 mph.

Oklahoma at Baylor, 7 p.m. Saturday in Waco, Texas

Traveling waaaay south on Interstate 35 from Ames, Iowa, past Norman, past the Dallas-Fort Worth area and you'll eventually arrive in Waco, Texas.

Fortunately, the cold weather that's hitting Oklahoma (and Iowa, apparently) has not hit Texas quite yet, as you can expect mid 70s and cloudy skies during the day Saturday and overnight lows that aren't very low: 67 degrees.

However, there will be 20 mph wind gusts, so beware of the kickoffs and field goals.

If you stay an extra day in Waco, you'll get even higher highs Sunday in the low 80s.

Tulsa at UTEP, 2 p.m. Saturday in El Paso, Texas

Going to southwesternmost Texas does not equate to even warmer temperatures than Waco. Sorry Golden Hurricane fans.

With this afternoon game, you can expect 15 to 25 mph winds and highs in the 70s. Mostly cloudy skies means you might be able to make it without sunglasses!

However, if you spend the night in El Paso, the lows are expected to be near 40 degrees.
