Reality: What a Concept/OK

Artist Grace Grothaus demonstrates how "Re(View) in Situ" works.

Tulsa artist Grace Grothaus will be conducting a walk on the arty side this Sunday to give participants a better understanding of “Re(View) in Situ,” her installation now on display as part of the “Concept/OK” exhibit at the Hardesty Arts Center.

"Re(View) in Situ" is a uniquely interactive experience, combining photography, painting and wireless technology to create what Grothaus called “augmented reality.”

Photographs of various Tulsa street scenes can be viewed through smart phones or tablet computers, using a special application that overlays Grothaus’ paintings of the same scene – a way of comparing instantly reality with the artist’s interpretation of that reality.

Grothaus will be conducting a gallery talk about her work at the center beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. In addition to talking about the process and the implications of her work, and giving visitors the chance to experience it for themselves with their own smartphones and tablet computers, Grothaus will lead a short tour of some of the downtown sites featured in the exhibit.

The app can be downloaded in advance HERE; the exhibit will also have a tablet for those who do not wish to bring their own.

Examples of Grothaus' work are also on display at the M.A. Doran Gallery, 3509 S. Peoria Ave.

The "Concept/OK" exhibit will close Feb. 16.
