In creating my Pop Blog in 2011, I finally had an outlet for all my random (and sometimes shameful) knowledge about inane, pop-culture events.
I soak up celebrity, TV and movie news like a sponge, and it's been a pleasure to share my most amusing nuggets.
But I must say, there have been certain things of which I'm not proud. I know waaaay too much about the
Real Housewives for example.
So, in continuing with a fun theme established by the staff of
Entertainment Weekly this week, I'm resolving to rid myself of some bad, pop-culture blogging habits in '12.
Here are my resolutions for the Pop Blog in 2012.
Warning: I still might blog about a
Housewife, but I won't like it (well, maybe a little).
Stop obsessing about new TV showsAmerican Horror Story is the perfect example of this heart-breaker. The thoroughly creepy show on FX was a pleasant surprise, but when I build something up so high, I inevitably fall into deep disappointment. (Why did they reveal Rubber Man's identity that way? Why was he
that guy?)
Now that creator Ryan Murphy has revealed that the show will have a
completely new story next season, like an anthology, I don't know what to think.
I promise to be more professional and not get so deeply involved. We'll see.
Stop watching Kardashian anythingI'm admitting it. I've watched the Kar-krasian bad TV that dominated the E! network. I watched the wedding. I got caught up. I've been telling myself that technically "it's my job" as a pop blogger to know what's going on with this money-obsessed, completely ridiculous family. But does it matter?
No way.
It just gives me a headache and the penchant to think in a monotone, robot-like manner.
Read more, watch lessAfter a week of vacation and another new electronic device, I've promised myself to keep up on current books, or books-being-turned-into-movies. I'm reading
The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides and plan to read
The Hobbit again after I'm finished.
I always regretted not revisiting Tolkein's masterpieces before the
LOTR films came out. This time, I'll be ready.
What are your resolutions for 2012?
