Ronnie Cole, a district chief with the Tulsa Fire Department, and his wife Sheryl recently opened River City Grill, 1 W. 41st St., Sand Springs. It is in an area better known as Prattville.

The restaurant features hamburgers, fried and grilled chicken dishes, salads and fry bread. Its specialty is Over the Flame Chicken, in which chunks of chicken have been hand-breaded, fried and seasoned, then grilled over an open flame.

For the past three years the space has held Amici's Italian Eatery, but for almost 30 years prior to that it was Lee's Diner.

"We have patterned the restaurant after Lee's in that we are serving old-fashioned hamburgers but have added bite-sized boneless chicken," Ronnie Cole said. "The decor is neat and clean with firefighter decorations."

River City Grill is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

To get there, take Oklahoma 97 south from Sand Springs to 41st Street, then go west (right) about a block.
