Rocky Frisco. Tulsa World file
Tulsa Sound and Red Dirt music icon
Rocky Frisco will be honored with the "Living Legend" award at this year's
Bare Bones International Film Festival, he told me in a recent phone call.
"They've giving me
that award. You know, the one you have to be really
old to get," Frisco joked in a phone call with the Tulsa World. "Yep, the 'Living Legend' name. It's a real honor, to be honest. It's really exciting."
The fest runs April 13-22 in Muskogee. For full details and to register for free tickets, visit the official website at
barebonesfilmfestivals.org/. Tickets also are available for $10-$30.
Frisco will be honored 1 p.m. Sunday in a tribute followed by the documentary "
Red Dirt: Songs From the Dust."
Frisco is a Tulsa Sound co-founder. He is a 1955 graduate of Central High School in Tulsa, where he first met singer-songwriter J.J. Cale. Frisco has played piano for some of rock’s most lauded visionaries, including Cale, Eric Clapton, Flash Terry, the Gene Cross Band, Clyde Stacy, Danny McBride, Tom Skinner’s Science Project and countless others.
