Sam and Ella's plans Thursday opening for Tulsa restaurant

Sam and Ella’s Chicken Palace, a popular Tahlequah restaurant since 1999, plans to open a Tulsa location. The target opening date is next Thursday.
The Tulsa store will be located 4932 E. 91st St., on the southeast corner of 91st Street and Yale Avenue next to Ri Le Vietnamese restaurant.
The restaurant will be carryout only and will serve the same menu as the Tahlequah store, according to co-owner Tommy Mullen.
Sam and Ella's Chicken Palace specializes in pizzas and sub sandwiches. The chicken in its name refers to the decor, not the food.
"I was working at a brewery in Colorado, and my brother talked me into coming home and opening the Tulsa store," Mullen said. "We have been looking at Tulsa for a while. So many Tulsa people went to school at Northeastern State University and wanted a Sam and Ella's here."
Mullen said he expects the restaurant to be open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Sam and Ella's also has a location in Pryor.
"We are in the process of converting that restaurant from carryout only to sit-down," Mullen said.

Going to be a lot of disappointed people going in for chicken.

But they will be delighted with the wonderful pizza.

Seems like a stupid name for an eating place, if they don't sell chicken.

It's catchy, Mar. And if you say Sam and Ellas fast enough it sounds like Salmonella, the sickness.

Carrie Underwood was the waitress at the one in Tahlequah while attending NSU.

The name is too close to sounding like Salmonella....hope it works for them.

If you say the name just right, you get the irony. I hear the pizza is the best but was really hoping for a great fried chicken place. Oh well, hope to see them SOON!

You know this might be a good concept. If you get sick and try to sue them, they can point out that their sign expressly offers it.

Silly name, but the reviews for this place are off the charts.

Naming the restaurant "Sam and Ella's" was no accident... but it seems some missed the joke. I think that it is funny, and I am excited for another local lunch place!!
