Will you still use Netflix's mail service? I will -- but it's going to cost me.
Are you an enveloper or a streamer?
Netflix wants to know, like right now.
Die-hard Netflix subscribers like myself were a little perplexed when we received an email from the company last week announcing a rate hike for those who still wish to receive DVDs by mail and use its unlimited streaming service.
Customers went wild on Twitter, of course. But it kind of feels like they're making us choose between the "old-fashioned" mail method and the easier, cheaper streaming method.
But just wait -- Netflix has done it again. Sunday night, streaming customers were disappointed when the service went down for a few hours.
I suppose if DVDs, like books, are the new dinosaurs, then consider me a brontosaurus.
I love getting home and seeing a red Netflix envelope in my mailbox. I swear I have a life. But watching TV on DVD is one of my favorite hobbies.
Here are the top five TV shows I've watched on DVD:
1. The Wire. This is one of the best TV shows I've ever watched. It's slow, but like a great novel, it's very satisfying. Stay with it.
2. Friday Night Lights. I just got into this last year, believe it or not. I'm not a sports person, but its regional charm and wonderful characters had me at the first pep rally.
3. Gilmore Girls. Another gem I discovered far too late, and I was so sad when it came to a close. Two hyper, overly caffeinated, speed-talking brunettes? Count me in.
4. Lost. I didn't get into the mega-hit until I started watching the show on DVD. I had an hours-long marathon last year leading up to the finale. That's another entry all its own.
5. Veronica Mars. Why, oh why, did they cancel this show? A good friend recommended it, and I flew through it on DVD in a couple of weeks.
