Sometimes we like to plan short jaunts around the area just to see what is going on, how things change and maybe pick up on a place to dine we weren't aware of before.
We recently made a three-hour tour that included seven communities and two meals. Here's how it went.
Starting in Broken Arrow, we took the BA Expressway to U.S. 169, then north to Owasso and Collinsville. From there we took Oklahoma 20 west to Skiatook, where we had breakfast at the Brown Cow Diner.
After breakfast we took a leisurely drive back toward Tulsa on Cincinnati Avenue, which turns into Peoria Avenue at Sperry. Then it's a short hop through Turley before getting back to Tulsa, where we had lunch at Coffee House on Cherry Street.
The areas north of Tulsa have some pretty grim-looking stretches, but they also have some beautiful rural scenery between each of the towns.
A little more planning and a little more time, and this would be a great time of year to plan short trips and take advantage of farmers markets and small-town diners along the way.
