Signature Symphony's indoor fireworks

There’s one Fourth of July tradition that Barry Epperley is very glad not to observe.
“For 25 years,” he said, “we would do our annual concert at Veterans’ Park, right before the ?city’s fireworks display. I was a lot younger then. And I must confess that I’m so pleased to performing inside on the Third of July, not outside on the Fourth.”
The orchestra’s “Fourth on the Third” concert will be 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the VanTrease PACE, 10300 E. 81st St. Tickets are $12, and available by calling 595-7777 or at tulsaworld.com/mytix.
Epperley said the program for this year’s concert will feature music “that is close to my ‘red, white and blue’ heart,” with selections including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Yankee Doodle” and “American Salute.”
With the 2012 Olympics in London soon to start, Epperley said two of the selections will pay tribute to Olympics past – the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, which featured 84 pianists performing Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”; and the 1972 Munich Olympics, where the murder of Israeli athletes by Palestinian terrorists inspired John Williams to compose “Hatikva.”
In recognition of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War, Epperley said, “We’ll perform a special arrangement by Carmen Dragon of several songs from that era, such as ‘Tenting on the Old Campground,’ ‘Dixie’ and ‘Battle Cry of Freedom.’”
The evening will also include a musical tribute to all men and women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, and a guest conductor for a John Philip Sousa march.

I borrowed this from the TCC website:
The Signature Symphony began in 1978 as a small professional chamber orchestra, the Tulsa Little Symphony, and in the early 80s became the Oklahoma Sinfonia, presenting a series of pops and light classics at the Brady Theater for more than a decade.
In 1997, the ensemble was asked to become the professional orchestra-in-residence at Tulsa Community College’s new performing arts center on the southeast campus. Since that time, the Signature Symphony at TCC has developed a well-received concert series and educational classes at the VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education (PACE).
Our players also participate regularly in other area ensembles, including the Tulsa Opera Orchestra, OK Mozart Festival Orchestra, Bartlesville Symphony, Wichita Symphony Orchestra, and the Fort Smith Symphony. In addition, more than 20 members of the Symphony teach either full or part-time in area schools. Quite a few orchestra members are part time faculty in Tulsa area colleges, including TCC.
If you have never experienced the Signature Symphony at VanTrease PACE this would be a great first time. Take the kids, take your Mom and Dad.
