PEOPLE reports the director of "Snakes on a Plane,"
David R. Ellis was found dead in the bathroom of his hotel room in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Monday. He was 60.
While reports from Ellis' autopsy have not been released, according to the magazine, police do not suspect foul play.
According to PEOPLE, the filmmaker started his career in movies as an actor and stuntman in the '70s.
Before his death, Ellis was in Johannesburg working on "Kite," a remake of the 1998 Japanese anime film said to have starred
Samuel L. Jackson, who played the lead in 'Snakes.'
Jackson said on Twitter he was sad to hear of Ellis's death.
"So talented, so kind, such a Good Friend. He'll be missed. Gone too soon!"
Among his many credits are Final Destination 2, The Final Destination, "Homeward Bound 2: Lost in San Francisco" and "Cellular," which he directed. His stuntman credits include "Lethal Weapon," "Ghost Dad," "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" and many others.
