The two-day rainfall map as of 12:15 p.m. Friday shows those places that benefited from the widely-scattered showers. Lucky.
That headline may be
the understatement of the year.
Looking at the current
forecast, one might get their hopes up that you will be able to follow
water restrictions while keeping your lawn fresh and green.
There is a slight chance of showers every day from now to Thursday. However, the key word there is
slight.
What is forecast are those widely scattered showers that are so common in the summertime here. They pop up quickly and dissipate almost as quickly. Not a lot of the area will see rain, but those that do see some rain will see quite a bit of it.
Looking at the last two days of rain from the
Oklahoma Mesonet, you can see where those storms were by the (relatively) large amount of rain that fell in those areas. And you can especially tell where it didn't fall.
The National Weather Service has not officially recorded any measurable rain at the airports in Tulsa since July 13, when 0.23 inches fell at Tulsa International.
So while there is some rain forecast, don't get your hopes too high. I mean, it wouldn't hurt to be optimistic, though.
Speaking of optimistic, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration upped their Atlantic hurricane season
forecast. They are now calling for a 70 percent chance of 14 to 19 named storms including seven to 10 hurricanes, three to five of which could be Category 3 or higher. For those that are very optimistic, that also increases our chances of getting one of those storms to blow up toward our direction, giving us some much needed significant rainfall.
Again, key words there are
very optimistic.

P.S.
Look ahead in that forecast. Are those highs in the 90s I see?! I won't believe it till it happens.
