Spike TV held their 10th annual Video Game Awards (VGAs) last night. Along with the standard assortment of clips from familiar video game titles this year, Samuel L. Jackson once again hosted the festivities with his own brand of humor and infamous lines from such movies as Pulp Fiction and Snakes on a Plane.
Aside from the trailers for video games already revealed such as The Last of Us and Tomb Raider, the VGAs also announced new titles.
From Software is returning to its acclaimed series with Dark Souls II. As anyone who played Demon Souls or Dark Souls knows, you will die a lot. The trailer showcased a knight decked out in armor battling masked opponents with swords, taking fire from a dragon and even dying from multiple arrow hits.
Also revealed was The Phantom Pain; a game by new developer Moby Dick Studio. This seems like a psychological thriller as you play a man who has just awaken from a coma and sinister things begin to happen such as heavily armed men killing patients in a hospital and giant flaming whales.
However, as IGN.com has pointed out, some observant gamers out there are thinking that this title is nothing more than a viral campaign for Metal Gear Solid V. As readers have pointed out, Moby Dick Studio’s CEO is Joakim Mogren; whose first name is an anagram for Kojima, last name for Metal Gear’s creator Hideo Kojima. Next, people at the VGAs reported that they saw Kojima and others at Konami’s table wearing The Phantom Pain and Moby Dick Studio shirts. Also, the main character of the trailer did resemble Big Boss; the protagonist from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Still, nothing is concrete about it yet.
Here is the full list of last night's winners.
