A lot of new information is being released and tweeted by producers and creators of the anticipated upcoming movies to tickle your geek fancy.
'The Muppets'
A lot of news for the Muppets sequel, titled "The Muppets... Again!" has been released recently. Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais and Ty Burrell will join the cast of Kermit and Miss Piggy for the release to be directed by James Bobin. Bobin is known for his work on "Flight of the Conchords" and "Da Ali G Show." This movie is going to be insane.
The team behind this movie is full of Oscar winners, such as Bret McKenzie (also known as FIGWIT) from "Flight of the Conchords" and David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, both of whom worked on "The Fighter."
"The Muppets... Again! "is set to play the music and light the lights on March 21, 2014.
'X-Men: Days of Future Past'
The news about "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is just so exciting I can't contain myself. Bryan Singer, a master of social media, has been teasing followers for months now. Most casting news has been announced by Singer on his Twitter feed, beating the studios to the announcement.
Singer has expressed that the X-Men trilogy will be honored, so that might explain why we haven't seen James Marsden or Famke Janssen's names on the list. They may still be included as Janssen played Phoenix, a character known to never truly die.
As for Xavier, in the comics he's cloned himself nearly a dozen times, and at the end of "X-Men: The Last Stand," we saw Charles speak to Moira from the body of a man in a catatonic state. We also saw the return of Magneto's powers.
Singer recently tweeted a picture of himself going over a set design for the new X-Men movie. I cannot express the enormity of this film, because it will unite two casts of brilliant, multi-award-winning actors. Seeing the interaction between these actors will be profound.
The story for the film will center around a character (Kitty Pryde in the comic version) who travels back in time to prevent the armageddon of mutant-hunting sentinels, which began with the assassination of a political official.
If you're interested in the original story that the movie will adapt to film, go to your local comic book store and pick up the Uncanny X-Men issues #141 and 142, originally released in 1981.
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" will star Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. The movie will blast into theaters July 18, 2014.
'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone'
This may not be completely geek related, but I have a feeling we'll be quoting this movie soon.
The new U.K. trailer for the Steve Carell film was released yesterday.
"The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" stars Steve Carrell, Jim Carrey, Steve Buschemi, Alan Arkin and Olivia Wilde. The movie poofs into theaters on March 15 of this year.
Superman images released
We finally see Lois Lane in a new image released by Desde Hollywood. Yes, she is using an iPad.
USA TODAY has released a few new images of Superman merchandise, and we've seen our first look at Zod's costume.
USA TODAY also recently released pictures of toys from the new Iron Man 3 movie.
'Superman Unbound' animated feature trailer released
Speaking of Superman, the trailer for the upcoming movie "Superman Unbound" was released today.
'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'
The Spider-Man cast has nearly filled up and we're hearing news of even more casting. Paul Giamotti of "The Hangover II" fame is up for the role of the Rhino. We already know that Jamie Foxx has been cast as Electro, and Shailene Woodley has been cast as Mary Jane Watson. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively.
The movie swings into theaters on May 2, 2014.
J.J. Abrams has been confirmed for 'Star Wars VII'
To many the praise as chagrin of fans everywhere, Abrams was officially confirmed by Disney to be the director of the new 'Star Wars' movie. George Lucas reportedly picked Abrams as a successor to the franchise because of his ability to make movies with palatable stories and exciting scenes.
While some Star Wars fans have bemoaned the now-inevitable use of lens-flare lightsabers, many fans are excited to see what Abrams will bring to the franchise. (He has hinted that he will be involved in more than one movie, and I suspect that he will have a larger role in the Star Wars franchise than just directing.)
I wrote a post about Abrams as the director of "Episode VII" which can be found here.
'Star Trek' Behind-the-Scenes video released
The creators of the new Star Trek movie released a behind the scenes video this week, complete with Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams discussing the film.
'Dr. Who' 50th anniversary special to reveal the Doctor's true origins
We're all a little giddy for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, and a special that will air showing the origins of the Doctor. We're heard a little about the Doctor's origins, but apparently there will be a lot more about him revealed in the special. It's rumored that all of the doctors will return in some form or another, so we will see a progression of forms the Doctor has taken over the millennia.
