I stumbled upon a bargain recently that I should pass along: AMC Southroads 20 is charging $4 matinee prices for movies showing before noon each day.

The theater has long charged this rate on Fridays through Sundays and on holidays, but management recently expanded the price-break to seven days a week. A little birdie told me the rate will continue through the end of summer, but beyond that is unknown.

It’s a nice price for moviegoers who seek out summer movies at earlier hours. It’s also the latest competitive move that people like myself have enjoyed. As AMC 20 last year bumped up the start of some screenings to the 10 a.m. hour, a couple of other theaters, like Cinemark Tulsa and Starworld 20, have opened earlier to match them.

I was initially surprised at the number of Tulsa-area residents prepared to attend movies at this hour, but I have come to expect some opening-day films to have near-full audiences of 300-plus people as early as 10 a.m. on Friday.
