In a last-minute surprise for fans, hip-hop artist Johnny Polygon announced via his Facebook feed that he'll be performing at tonight's FreeTulsa music festival.

He takes the stage around 11:30 p.m. for an all-ages show at McNellie's Main Stage (outside).

The Tulsa native, who now lives in Los Angeles and New York City, has seen success with his albums "Wolf in Cheap Clothing," "Rebel Without Applause," "Catch-Up" and "Group Hug." His singles include the new tunes, "Invincible" and "What Sadness," along with "The Riot Song" featuring Kid Cudi, and Amanda Diva's "Neon." He also headlined last year's FreeTulsa music festival.

The festival runs 6 p.m.-1 a.m. tonight and Saturday. Admission is free and all-ages.

Some 175 bands will perform on more than a dozen stages across the Blue Dome District of downtown Tulsa, Second Street and Elgin Ave.

Also, a FreeTulsa music festival app is now available for download from iTunes.

App features include a dynamic schedule that will change if the lineup changes, and can be sorted by band, stage and date.

There's also an interactive map so you can find your way around -- and a lighter to wave during your favorite songs. Rock 'n' roll.

You may also share your email for 48 live recordings of FreeTulsa preforming artists.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
