Fun and smart. That's what this first trailer makes "Moneyball" look like, the kind of movie that baseball fans as well as economists and statisticians alike can love.

Brad Pitt stars as Billy Beane, the guy who in the 1990s as general manager turned the Oakland A's into playoff contenders even as the team was slashing its payroll.

How did he do it? Take a look at the trailer to find out about this movie co-written by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, and directed by Bennett Miller ("Capote"). Be patient; this looks like a winner, but it doesn't open until Sept. 23.
