Talk like a pirate, get free food for a day

Talk this way...
How I have missed this event for the last ten years, I do not know.
But now that I have been educated about International Talk Like a Pirate Day, it’s only fair to pass it on.
Mark it on your calendars. It’s Sept. 19.
Observance of International Talk Like a Pirate Day began in 2002 when founders John Bauer and Mark Summers persuaded Pulitzer prize winning columnist Dave Barry to write about their unusual concept in his Miami Herald column.
According to Barry, talking like a pirate will infuse your everyday conversations with romance and danger. He suggests that the way to prepare for this unique holiday is to “practice incorporating pirate terminology into your everyday speech.”
And many enterprising businesses have jumped on the bandwagon.
Not surprisingly, Long John Silver’s is one of the places where you can get free food if you come in to one of their restaurants and talk like a pirate on Wednesday.
Customers get a free piece of fish with the purchase of regular meal if they are willing to talk like a pirate.
And according to the LJS people, some typical pirate speech might be, “Ahoy” (hello), “Avast” (watch out!),“Step smartly, me lad” (get out of my way) or “Step smartly before I hang ye from the yard arm!” (seriously, get out of my way!).
And, when in doubt, there is always “Aarrrrrrr!”
But don’t forget about the free doughnuts.
Krispy Kreme is getting in on Talk Like a Pirate Day by giving away one free Original Glazed doughnut to people who talk like a pirate.
Here are the rules...according to KK. You don't want to miss this opportunity on a technicality.
To claim yer loot on September 19, ye must:
- Talk like a pirate or wear an eye patch to a participating Krispy Kreme shop for one FREE Original Glazed doughnut.
- Come to a participating Krispy Kreme location in full pirate costume for one FREE dozen Original Glazed doughnuts. NO WEAPONS ALLOWED! Offer good for one free doughnut per customer who wears an eye patch or talks like a pirate to a Krispy Kreme team member at a participating shop.
- One free dozen Original Glazed doughnuts per customer who wears a full pirate costume into a participating Krispy Kreme location. Redeemable on September 19, 2012 only at participating Krispy Kreme US locations.

Have you seen the trailer for a new movie, the name of which escapes me at the moment, where a girl places her hand over one eye and "does a pirate dance"? I don't know why, but that 3 seconds cracks me up every time.
Be sure and read the comments here that day, Nicole. In years past some of the posters have had lots of fun playing along...

One of my favorite holidays. There wasn't much enthusiasm for it last year on these threads, but hopefully this year will be different.

I dress like a pirate every Friday. I guess I need to change things up next week.
