MTV shows "Teen Mom" and "16 and Pregnant" have quite possibly reached a goal they intended, data from a recent study may indicate.

Results from a new study show 77 percent of American teens have a better understanding of the difficulties of pregnancy and parenting - an outcome The Christian Science Monitor, says may, in part, be due to the popular reality shows that were launched in 2009.

The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy conducted the study.

The flipside to that, however, is the 23 percent of teens who say the shows, which follow young mothers, make parenting look easy. And 48 percent of adults feel they do, too.

The Centers For Disease Control and Prevention reported a 9 percent drop in U.S. teen birth rate from 2009 to 2010. In 2010, fewer babies were born to teens than in any year since the mid-1940s, the CDC reports.

But what do you think? Do you see the shows as having made such an impact or having the potential to?

The fourth and final season of "Teen Mom" began yesterday.
