'Texas Children Have Eyes on the Last House on the Left'

A still from the recent(ish) remake of the 1974 slasher classic "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre." (AP Photo/New Line Cinema)
I love scary movies, but I particularly like them this time of year -- so much so that I watch, on average, at least one scary movie a night during the week, usually several on the weekend.
That said, the odds of my picking a turkey of a flick are pretty high in October, as was the case Saturday when I rented "House of the Dead" at Blockbuster. (Yes, I still go to Blockbuster to supplement my Netflix addiction.)
Anyway, that movie sucked so badly that I only watched the first 30 minutes. It easily ranks as one of the worst scary movies ever.
So I promptly complained on Facebook, partly to field others' suggestions on which horror films to avoid. The most popular responses were "Motel Hell" (haven't seen that one), "The Hills Have Eyes," "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and the Chucky franchise.
Other notable responses included "Last House on the Left," "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things" (never heard of that one) "1,001 Maniacs," "Bug" (I've purposefully avoided this one), "In a Dark Place" and, my favorite answer from the thread, "Pretty Woman."
So what's the worst scary movie you've ever seen?
Peace, love and hills with eyes ... XOXO

Mine was that awful "Halloween" remake a few years back.

We tried to watch "Husk" after getting it from Redbox, but after about 15 minutes, we were kind of rooting for the demonic, murderous scarecrow. Didn't make it past 20 minutes.

Without a doubt, the worst I've ever seen is "The Blair Witch Project". I was wishing they would all kill each other and get it over with. You MUST see Motel Hell. It's a cult classic.

I don't know about worst but Alone in the Dark with Tara Reid and Christian Slater was pretty darn awful.
Try Prince of Darkness by Carpenter for a good one.

I was looking for a movie to watch on On Demand the other night and I kept seeing A Haunting in Salem (or something like that.) There were three or four other scary movies. I wanted to watch that one (I *love* scary movies) but I was all alone (except for my dog, who barks when she hears a mouse toot) in a new house, so I decided not to watch it. My mom and I went to see the remake of Last House on the Left and it is very...disturbing. (There is a rape scene that is very graphic.) I don't recommend it, but then I don't care for that kind of thing (it's not really horror to me. I feel the same about Hostel. Both of those movies made me feel icky.) Mom and I plan to go see Dream House soon. We saw Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. It was not bad, but it was scarier before they showed the scary things. (I don't know what to call them.) Do you like to also read scary stuff? Because I have a couple threads for you to read on Livejournal that you might like if you do, but don't read them after dark.

Living Wright
While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
