Thanks for the memories

Now that Halloween has passed and it is officially November, there’s nothing stopping me from bringing up Thanksgiving.

This is a food blog, after all. And the most anticipated feast of the year is three weeks away.

Most families have stories to tell about the trials and tribulations of cooking an indulgent Thanksgiving spread.

Let’s face it. The advent of turkey fryers has added another level of excitement to the holiday. I can remember the time I looked outside to see flames creeping ever so slowly away from the fryer. I alerted my brother-in-law and everybody started moving a little faster until the fire was extinguished.

I do like the fried turkeys with that Cajun seasoning, nonetheless.

I recall the years that the sauces didn’t quite pan out - and the expletives that followed. So in my family the bearnaise sauce for the beef tenderloin has been renamed something that can’t be repeated.

And, as I remember, some dogs are a little craftier at finding ways to crawl up on a fully decorated table to get at the stick of butter.

That’s a sight to see.

And certainly, it’s one of the many memories that I share with my family of our holiday gatherings.

I would like to hear about your Thanksgiving memories and, perhaps, share a few in an upcoming story. I am interested in memories both sweet and bittersweet, from kitchen calamities to culinary triumphs.

Thanks in advance!
