"The Dark Knight Rises" has been rated....

The Motion Picture Association of America has had its look at "The Dark Knight Rises," and they have assigned a PG-13 rating for what is likely this summer's most anticipated film.

The rating is hardly a surprise; director Christopher Nolan's first two films in this trilogy were rated PG-13, and he and Warner Bros. both want everyone to see the movie that wants to -- with or without parental accompaniment.

But check out the details from the MPAA's PG-13 rating for "The Dark Knight Rises": "intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language."

The hot-button word here is "sensuality," and we can only assume that means something hot and heavy between Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne/Batman and Anne Hathaway's Selina Kyle/Catwoman.

But then, I haven't seen the movie, and the MPAA has -- so let the speculation begin.

Personally, I haven't seen anything in the category of eroticism in the series of "Batman" movies yet that would match the 1989 version by Tim Burton.

That would be the one in which Bruce Wayne (played by Michael Keaton) and Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger) turn what is essentially their first date into a sleepover. Still trying to figure that one.

The "Batman" films of the last 25 years have included "disturbing images" in their ratings details, and even "some innuendos," but "sensuality" makes its first appearance in "The Dark Knight Rises," in theaters on July 20.

“I was born a poor, black child” … not me, actually, but Steve Martin’s character in the “The Jerk.” That absurd opening line is just one of the absurd number of film facts, quotes and minutiae contained in movie critic Michael Smith’s brain, at his disposal to toss out on a moment’s notice. It’s a key requirement as Tulsa World film critic to know these things. Michael learned a few other life facts along the way (seven years as a Crystal’s Pizza & Spaghetti manager) before attempting journalism and joining the Tulsa World in 1996, where he’s covered everything from a school shooting in Fort Gibson to a tornado in Stroud to witnessing an execution. A little community theater coverage was sprinkled in there, too. Movies engender many of his happiest memories, from standing in line for “Star Wars” and “Grease” at the Southroads Cinema to the James Bond and Pink Panther movies that always premiered at the enormous Continental Theater.

Big winner tonight: producer Harvey Weinstein. "The Artist" wins 5 Oscars, "The Iron Lady" goes 2-for-2, even wins best documentary.
