The G word

Happy Hump Day Eve, people! Ugh, it tires me out to use exclamation points so early in the day, at least when I'm not screaming at the alarm clock -- yeah, that's always productive.
OK, so I was on the radio this morning -- KBEZ, 92.9. The incomparable Carly Rush invited me on for a minute or two to chat about my column on her Planet Woman segment.
First of all, I'm not usually up before 8 a.m., but I had to be there at 7:45 a.m., which is quite painful -- especially for a night owl who's not used to driving east at dawn's crack. I think I'm legally blind now.
So I get to the station (fabulous view from the seventh floor), and I'm wearing a hoodie, my Sia concert T-shirt (more on that next time) and a baseball cap. Oh, yeah, and jeans. Thank the Lord it wasn't TV.
Anyway, in the course of 120 seconds, I managed to drop the G word: Gynocologist. It was in reference to women's shorts and how they could be so short that "the world becomes your" gyno. As soon as the last syllable slid out of my mouth, I was mortified. This is Reason No. 1 why radio stations usually don't ask me back. I just lack that filter most tactful people possess. My apologies if I offended anyone.
Still, had a ball -- love Carly and KBEZ, hope they invite me back despite my anxiety-induced Tourettes.
Peace, love and radio waves ... xoxo

Living Wright
While other kids were watching "The Smurfs," Scene Writer Jason Ashley Wright was tuned in to "Style with Elsa Klensch." By fourth grade, he knew he wanted to write, and spent almost three years publishing a weekly teen-oriented magazine, Teen-Zine -- circulation: 2. After earning a degree in journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi, he became the medical reporter and teen board coordinator for the Hattiesburg (Miss.) American, a Gannett newspaper. Eight months later, with visions of Elsa dancing in his head, he applied for the fashion writer position at the Tulsa World, where he began working on Aug. 3, 1998. He is now a general assignment reporter for Scene.
