South Carolina rock, reggae and hip-hop fusion act The Movement will perform 7 p.m., Friday at Osage Event Center, formerly Osage Million Dollar Elm.

Opening will be California reggae-rock band Pacific Dub. The show is free and open to ages 18 and older. The event center is located at 951 W. 36 St. North.

The Movement is known for energetic live shows, and have toured with a roster of rock and fusion acts, including Steel Pulse, Blues Traveler, Slightly Stoopid, The Wailers, Ludacris, G. Love & Special Sauce, Common, Long Beach Shortbus, The Wu Tang Clan and 311.
The secret to the band’s rise? “Lazy bands die fast,” band mate Gary Jackson told Skope online magazine. The Movement plays about 200 live shows a year.

The band’s scope of influences is even broader, including the Pixies, Sublime, Outkast, Norah Jones and more.

The band has been on the road non-stop since the 2008 release of its sophomore studio album “Set Sail,” which went to No. 7 on iTunes’ Top 100 Reggae Albums.

The band includes Jordan Miller, Jay Schmidt, Gary Jackson and John Bowling.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.
