Tom Skinner's "Science Project," a long-standing Tulsa tradition of seasoned and influential musicians, is moving to the Blue Dome Diner, 311 E. Second St., in downtown Tulsa, confirmed the venue's owner, Brian Prewitt.

The project takes over 9 p.m.-1 a.m. each Wednesday, he said. That also means the diner is open now on Wednesdays, too, with a full bar.

The longtime improv-style music night is a standard for many of Tulsa’s biggest singer-songwriters and performers. Look for Rocky Frisco, Jimmy Karstein and many other local celebrities as they have rowdy fun with Americana and roots rock. It's practically a cornerstone of Tulsa blues and the infamous Tulsa Sound.

The nomadic group has previously played at everywhere through the years, from Boston's to the Mercury Lounge, Crow Creek Tavern, Cimarron Bar, Blank Slate and more.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.
