Actress Judy Garland was Dorothy in the 1939 movie,"The Wizard of Oz." AP file photo.

I have to admit, I've never made it all the way through any version of "The Wizard of Oz."

I've seen enough to recognize popular quotes and songs, and I have a rough idea of the plot. It's no fault of the story, it's just that I could never seem to catch the whole thing when it came on TV.

If you're a fan of this classic tale and your kids haven't yet watched it, consider introducing them to Dorothy and her friends during Encore Theatre Arts' upcoming production.

Before the kids follow that yellow brick road into a new school year, take them out to enjoy "The Wizard of Oz" at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17-18 and 23-25, and 2 p.m. Aug. 18-19 and 25-26 at the PAC’s Liddy Doenges Theatre, 110 E. Second St.

Tickets are $11-$16, available at tulsaworld.com/mytix or 918-596-7111.
