Dame Maggie Smith stars as Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham, in "Downton Abbey" which returns to PBS in 2013.

There's no Maggie like "Downtown Abbey's" Maggie Smith.
As Countess of Grantham Violet Crawley, Dame Maggie Smith has had more than her share of biting quips, digs and priceless commentary on the people and events featured on PBS’ hit series "Downton Abbey." The "Masterpiece Classic" series ended its second season Sunday on PBS.
Lest anyone forget between now and season three coming in 2013, PBS has complied its own "Best Maggie Moments" in a video clip set to the music of Rod Stewart's famous song "Maggie May." Among the character's best lines, said to her granddaughter's arrogant fiancé Sir Richard when he told her he was leaving and doubted they would see each other again: "Do you promise?"
And, next season, fans can most probably anticipate a verbal smackdown with flying zingers between the Dowager Countess (Smith) who is not impressed by Americans and Martha Levinson who will be played by Oscar winner Shirley MacLaine on the period drama. Levinson has been added to the show as the mother of American-born Lady Grantham played by Elizabeth McGovern.
