I'll take a break from cake after this post, but had to share this great tip from a Tulsa World reader.
Sandy Moeller read Wednesday's Scene article about sheet cake, and it reminded her of a trick she learned from her daughter, Krista Finnegan.
Sandy has made the basic sheet chocolate sheet cake we featured for years, but the last few times she's made it it's been with a variation.
"During the last two minutes of baking the cake, I take the entire (large) package of York Peppermint Patties, unwrap and place spaced out on top of the almost-finished cake," she said.
Leave it in the oven for two minutes, take out and use a spatula to spread the patties. Finish immediately with the frosting while the cake is hot.
Chocolate-peppermint lovers will go crazy for this cake.
