Dozens of Oklahoma music acts are headed south this week to be a part of the South by Southwest music conference and festival.

First things first: More than 20 bands will perform official showcases this week at the South by Southwest music and industry event down in Austin.

Showcasing artists include Tulsa Sound native Dwight Twilley as well as Oklahoma acts Unwed Sailor, Fedel, OK Sweetheart, Paul Benjaman Band, Stardeath and White Dwarfs, The Uglysuit, Cady Groves, Audra Mae, Dre Murray and Brandon Jenkins, to name a few.

The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma also will hold a SxSW showcase at Soho Lounge on Saturday, featuring: Gum, The City Lives, The Non, Colourmusic, The Uglysuit and Stardeath and White Dwarfs.

In addition, the Oklahoma Film & Music Office also will present its second showcase in two years at the festival on Thursday, with musicians Wanda Jackson and backing band Green Corn Revival, The Red Alert, Fiawna Forte, The Pretty Black Chains, K.C. Clifford, Daniel Walcher, Camille Harp and Chase Kerby.

More than a dozen more Oklahoma acts will play "unofficial" showcases during the week. Their shows run in tandem with SxSW, but are not a part of the official festival, including Leon Russell, The Effects, Eric and the Adams, Restless Ribbon, Broncho, Grooms, Trash Yourself, Ali Harter, Red City Radio, The Boom Bang, Kids at the Bar, Jabee, Beatpunks, Computer Blue, Camille Harp, The Mean Spirits, Crystal Vision, Mark Gibson, Mike Kelly and Joshua Distance, among others.

Several other showcasing acts hold Okie ties, including: Hot Club of Cowtown features a Tulsa-area resident Whit Smith on guitar and vocals, Daddy a Go-Go features Tulsa native John Boydston, Bowling for Soup worked with Tulsa native Zac Maloy and School of Seven Bells features Lawton-native Benjamin Curtis, among others.

The music portion of South by Southwest runs March 17-21 in Austin.
