While I was driving around this morning with the snow swirling around the car, I thought to myself: What could be better right now than the Malibu French toast at Phill's Diner at 33rd Street and Harvard Avenue.

That's the one with the French toast drizzled with creamy orange marmalade and cream cheese sauce, served with a side of strawberries. Unfortunately, I was running behind and didn't have time to indulge.

It also could be that Phill's was on my mind because I recently had dinner with a professional chef who counts the waffles at Phill's among the best in town.

"Just good waffles," he said, with a palms-up shrug. "What more can I say?"
