Thinking of Tin Star restaurant and the price of gasoline

I recently went by Tin Star restaurant in Riverside Market and saw the notice on the door that it has closed.

Back at the office I found a newspaper clipping from the World's Business section from Oct. 6, 2004, announcing the upcoming opening of Tin Star, a promising Tex-Mex outfit featuring unusual items such as Japanese bread crumbs and fruit pico.

What caught my eye, however, was the big story on the page with the headline "Crude jumps $1.18 to top $51 per barrel."

Allow me to quote from that story:
"Gasoline prices stormed to $1.89 a gallon at most Tulsa stations Tuesday while oil prices charged past $51 a barrel to a record high.

"In Tulsa, the dominant price of regular unleaded fuel has risen 14 percent, or 24 cents, in just two weeks, including a 10-cent jump Tuesday.

"The record high for the Tulsa area is $1.91, set in May, according to AAA-Oklahoma, a travel club."

Too bad- I actually kind of liked that place, then everyone went out and put tacos on their menus.....

They lasted many years longer than I predicted. I don't like the hybrid of getting some of my stuff and them bringing me stuff, and standing in line to order it. Either be fast food, or serve me or lose me. I hate for anyone to have to close, especially a small local business.

Why did they go out of business? I ate there fairly regularly and they always seemed to have people in there. I loved their steak quesadillas. Any word on why it closed?

My wife suspected they had to give too many free meals to the kids on Sunday's. We enjoyed their food and thought had their lil "nitch".

RIP Tin Star.

It seems like the closing of Tin Star was a sudden decision. One month later I looked in the closed restaurant, and there are still beers out, signage still exists, chairs and tables as they were, etc. It's like a scene out of Walking Dead in there. What happened to our beloved Tin Star???
