Longtime Tulsa rock act Asylum will reunite for a one-off show Saturday called "Attack of the 50-Foot Has-Beens."

The thrash rocker celebrates its 25th anniversary in the same club they played their first live gig way back in 1987 -- the Eclipse, 1336 E. Sixth St. (Back then it was Club Nitro.) The band formed in 1985.

Asylum is guitarist Stacy Lane (Bunnies of Doom, Groove Pilots), bassist Terry Waska (Pit Bulls On Crack, Bozack, Tribe of Souls) and singer Dave Cantrell (Bunnies of Doom, Bozack, Cobra Kai from Colorado). This "classic" lineup recorded original albums "Deadlights," "Flashback" and "OKDK" with drummer Dave Hedberg.

Joining them on drums will be Charles Butler (Bozack, Sam & the Stylees).

The show starts 9 p.m. Saturday. Cover is $5.

Opening the show will be their old friends and indie rockers Tall Tales. Asylum plans to record the event for possible future release, so bring your rock hands and your hair extensions because you're gonna get headbanger's whiplash. Probably.

(Side note: Asylum is still waiting to hear back from Alyssa Milano to do the soundtrack for "Teen Steam 2 - Gotta Let It Out Again.")

Seriously, people. GO.

Barrelhouse Beat

Barrelhouse: A colloquialism describing the low saloons at the turn of the century (19th) that served whiskey straight out of the barrel. It's also a reference to the type of music played in those venues. Ex: Barrelhouse music.

Beat: The time or timing. Ex: The band played with a solid beat. Also used as a term describing a reporters specific area of expertise. Ex: The music beat.

About me: I'm Okie born and raised, and have lived all over the state: Oklahoma City, Enid, Moore, Norman, Edmond and Tulsa. I am a music geek, writer, graphic designer and amateur photographer and videographer who's followed the Tulsa and regional music scene since I moved to Green Country more than 10 years ago. I've been enmeshed in Tulsa's varied and vibrant musical night life, what some of us affectionately call a modernized throwback to the Barrelhouse scene, since that time. I fell in love with it. I fell hard.
