This weekend: Music, free hunting and Cherokee holiday events

Some things to fill your weekend:

Free hunting
Hunters, do you want to introduce friends to the activity? Consider doing it during Oklahoma’s annual Free Hunting Days, set for Saturday and Sunday.
Free Hunting Days is a weekend when resident hunters do not need to possess an annual hunting license or HIP permit while hunting.

Thursday concerts
Rock star Lita Ford will be at the IDL Ballroom, 230 E. First St., for an 8 p.m. concert today. Tickets are $20 at the door. Doors open at 7 p.m. Ages 18 and older only.
And Chris Isaak will play 8 p.m. today at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa. Tickets start at $40, available at tulsaworld.com/hardrockcasino or 918-384-ROCK. Isaak’s biggest hit was the 1990 single “Wicked Game.”

‘One Book, One Tulsa’
To complement its “One Book, One Tulsa” initiative -- which explores food, gardening, health and sustainability -- the Tulsa City-County Library is presenting “Experience the World Without Ever Leaving Your Kitchen.”
The event is from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Martin Regional Library, 2601 S. Garnett Road. Sasha Martin of “Global Table Adventure” will talk about her project to eat her way around the world, trying 195 meals from 195 countries in 195 weeks.

Vision2 forums
Have ideas on how the city should use the projected $157.9 million in quality-of-life funding if voters approve Vision2, a proposed sales-tax extension?
Head to one of several public forums scheduled across the city through Sept. 7 to voice your opinions.
The town hall meetings are set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus, 3727 E. Apache St.; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center auditorium, 4502 E. 41st St.; 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the East Central Junior High School auditorium, 12121 E. 21st St.; and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 7 at Oral Roberts University Mabee Center, 7777 S. Lewis Ave.

Cherokee National Holiday
About 40 events are scheduled for the 60th Cherokee National Holiday Friday through Sunday in Tahlequah. The holiday showcases the best of Cherokee art, food, music, crafts, sports, culture and history and most events and attractions are free. All events will be held at the Cherokee Cultural Grounds, West 810 Road.
Among the scheduled events are a parade, powwow, Principal Chief Bill John Baker’s first State of the Nation address, children’s activities and a fireworks show. For a full list of events, visit tulsaworld.com/cherokeeholiday.
